NOTE ON THE TYPE OF RIFLES ALLOWED FOR EACH MATCH:

Shooters may use Any Rifle they choose to shoot any of our High Power Rifle Matches.

However, only those shooters using the designated type of rifle for each match will be eligible for match placing and awards. Shooters choosing to use Any Rifle shall shoot the same course of fire as is designated for the match.


“Any Rifle” – A rifle with no restrictions on sights or accessories, except that it must be legal
and safe to competitors and range personnel. Ammunition will be restricted to no larger than .45
caliber.

All High Power Rifle Matches will be 50 shot matches in the following sequence:

  • 10 rounds slow fire standing in 10 minutes
  • 10 rounds rapid fire sitting – time varies by match, see below
  • 10 rounds rapid fire prone – time varies by match, see below
  • 20 rounds slow fire prone in 20 minutes

CMP/NRA Service Rifle Match

The main match
Generally follows the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) and National Rifle Association (NRA)
Service Rifle match format. (This is NOT a CMP or NRA sanctioned event)
Definitions of a “Service Rifle” qualifying for this match:

“Service Rifle-U.S. Rifle, Caliber.30 M1” (M1 Garand).
“Service Rifle-U.S. Rifle, Caliber 7.62 mm M-14” (Civilian version M1A, semi-automatic operation
only)
“Service Rifle-U.S. Rifle, Caliber 5.56 mm M16 series” (Civilian version AR-15, semi-automatic
operation only)

“Foreign Service Rifle” – Any center fire rifle, as issued for general service by the armed forces
of any nation, or the same type and caliber of commercially manufactured rifle. Foreign Service
Rifles must be limited to semi-automatic or bolt action operation only.

“Old Soldier Service Rifle” – See definition of Old Soldier rifle below.

Use of Telescopic Sights (Scopes): Scopes may be used in the Service Rifle Match. Scope
magnification shall be limited to 4-Power. Variable magnification scopes shall be set to no more
than 4X.
CMP Match Course of Fire: (50 round match at 200 yards)

Slow Fire Standing Position: 10 rounds, single load, in a time limit of 10 minutes on a 200 yard
target.
Rapid Fire Sitting Position: 10 rounds in a time limit of 60 seconds* on a 200 yard target. The
kneeling position may be substituted for sitting.
Rapid Fire Prone Position: 10 rounds in a time limit of 70 seconds* on a 300 yard reduced target.
Slow Fire Prone Position: 20 rounds, single load, in a time limit of 20 minutes, on a 600 yard
reduced target.
*In the Rapid Fire stages, shooters will use two magazines or clips, loaded with 5 rounds each, or
with 2 rounds and 8 rounds. At the fire command, load, shoot the first magazine/clip, reload, then
2 magazine/clip, within the time limit.

M1 Garand Match

Same course of fire as the CMP/NRA Service Rifle Match above, but designated for standard issue
U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30 M1 Garand.

50 round match at 200 yards, all stages on a standard NRA 200 yard military target.
Following each M1 Garand Match, the “fun” match will be the .22 Rapid Fire Silhouette Match.

Old Soldiers Match – this is the main match

Definition of an Old Soldier:
We’re talking about the rifle, not the shooter! Any standard issue military service rifle, from any
country, World War 2 vintage (1945) or older.

Old Soldier Match Course of Fire: (50 round match at 200 yards)

All stages fired on an NRA 200 yard military target.

Slow Fire Standing Position: 10 rounds, single load, in a time limit of 10 minutes.

Rapid Fire Sitting Position: 10 rounds in a time limit of 90 seconds.

The kneeling position may be substituted for sitting. Rapid Fire Prone Position: 10 rounds in a time limit of 90 seconds.

Slow Fire Prone Position: 20 rounds, single load, in a time limit of 20 minutes.

*In the Rapid Fire stages, shooters may use any combination of stripper clips, magazines

Carbine Match

This is a “fun” match that will follow the CMP Match

Definition of Carbine:

Any legal rifle with a barrel length between 16 inches to 18 inches. Longer barrel rifles may be
used if the shooter does not own a “Carbine” – this is a “fun match”, and we encourage you to come
shoot whatever firearm you have. Semi-automatic carbines are best for this course of fire.
Carbine Match Course of Fire: (40 round match at 50 yards)

This is a Rapid Fire “fun” match. Start with two (02) 10-round magazines (or equivalent) At the
“Fire” command”:

  • Take 5 shots from the standing position
  • Go to kneeling position, take 5 shots from the kneeling position
  • Go to the prone position, reload with a fresh 10 round magazine, take 10 shots from the prone
    position
    Time Goal: Under 1 minute (time will be allowed for “saved rounds” at the end of 1 minute)

We run through the course of fire twice for a total of 40 rounds. Depending on the number of
shooters, we may run this in teams, or change up the course of fire or type of targets at the
whim of the Match Director.

.22 Rapid Fire Silhouette Match

The “fun” match following the Old Soldier Match Definition of a “.22”:

Come on! If you don’t know what a .22 is you need to go back to remedial boyhood. Any legal
.22 Long Rifle caliber rifle or carbine – this is a “fun match”, and we encourage you to come shoot
whatever .22 rifle you have. Semi-automatic .22’s are best for this course of fire. No .22 Magnums,
please.
.22 Rapid Fire Silhouette Match Course of Fire: (Total of 50 targets at 25, 50, and 75 yards)

This is a Rapid Fire, timed match. Targets are steel, rectangular silhouettes, targets are painted
alternating colors, and set up in an alternating color pattern:

  • Ten (of each color) 2” X 4” steel targets at 25 yards
  • Ten (of each color) 4” X 6” steel targets at 50 yards
  • Five (of each color) steel Pigs at 75 yards

Two shooters come to the line at a time. Each shooter will be assigned a target color. At the
“Fire” command, shoot down all of your color targets as fast as you can. Use as much ammo as you
need/want. If you hit the other guy’s color, it counts for him.
Everybody shoots the course twice, once on each color. Fastest time wins.
NOTE: We may use a different course of fire, depending on the whim of the Match Director.

Gong Challenge Match

This Challenge Match is for any legal rifle, with any type of sights. The course of fire for this match will vary with the whim of the Match Director. This will usually be a 10-shot match shooting at steel gongs.The targets may vary from match to match, but will usually be a torso sized steel gong hanging at200 yards, two 8-inch steel gongs hanging at 100 yards, and two 6-inch steel gongs hanging at 50yards.Shooters will each ante up $1.00. Winner takes the pot.Course of Fire:Shooters will shoot one at a time, and will shoot around a plywood barricade.2 shots unsupported standing at the 6-inch gongs at 50 yards.

  • 2 shots supported standing across the top of the barricade at the 8-inch gongs at 100
    yards.
  • 2 shots supported kneeling through the window in the barricade at the torso gong at 200
    yards.
  • 2 shots supported standing across the top of the barricade at the 8-inch gongs at 100
    yards.
  • 2 shots unsupported standing at the 6-inch gongs at 50 yards.

Time limit: This course will be “on the clock”; the fastest time wins. There will be a 10 second
penalty for each gong missed.
NOTE: We may use a different course of fire, depending on the whim of the Match Director

We have all the guys lined up for the sight in. We enjoy the club members coming out
and joining us. We have one bench for those who don’t wish to spend the $5 . Be sure
and mention to your friends and non-club members that we will be there to help tune
their favorite bullet launching machine to pin point accuracy.
