May 2012 Free Trappers shoot report

Where were all the Free Trappers?

Only five devoted muzzle-stuffers appeared for this month's match on May 5th. The excuses for absence as related were as varied as the shooters but that didn't put any more guns on the line. Reliable Tony was on hand to keep the coffee pot steaming and to assist in target scoring and verification. With a simplified match and proficient shooters on such an excellent shooting day, the five 'skinners made short work of the competition. As you'll see, this was perhaps a new series; "the Mike, Bob & Doug show!"
Mike Nesbitt took the gopher-head match and Doug Simpson triumphed over the dart board luck match (with a double 50 pointer in target dead center). Individual matches echoed the "Mike, Bob & Doug names when the winners were called. Trade gun; Bob DeLisle-1st, Mike Nesbitt-2nd, Doug Simpson-3rd. Pistol; Mike Nesbitt-1st, Bob DeLisle-2nd, and Doug Simpson-3rd. Rifle; Mike Nesbitt-1st, Doug Simpson-2nd, and Bob DeLisle-3rd. Aggregate; Mike Nesbitt-1st, Bob Delisle-2nd, Doug Simpson-3rd, Kent Dunn-4th. and Rowland Zoller-5th.
At the brief Free Trappers meeting, after some discussion it was OK'd to proceed with purchase of a new barrel to create the 2013 One Shot Hunt rifle from a donated rifle on hand. Other accessories will be added and a call is sent out for a gunsmith aspirant to tackle the task of making a period simulated rifle for this prize. Tim Sampson's request for volunteers was relayed, Mike Nesbitt agreed to take on the Trail Boss responsibility and has a couple of volunteer guides ready to commit to the schedule. Reminder to all about the Trail Repair work day for the third Saturday in August, the 18th. Expect that after our wet winter the undergrowth will be lush so lots of clearing is easily anticipated.
Coming event reminders: Evergreen Muzzleloaders next Sunday, May 13th. Mike says they will complete with pistols only on the upper trail. In June the BP monthly match at Capitol will be a rerun of the Old Time Centerfire cartridge. Rules in brief; black powder loads in traditional hyphenated cartridges (such as .44-40, .45-70). Single shots or tubular magazine repeaters from cross-sticks or body support, ten shots each at 50 & 100 yards. Shooter's fee $10.00 plus additional $5.00 for each added gun. First relay should start at 10:00 AM. If interested or for more details contact the Match Director Bob Gietz 360-273-7862 (duckfreak@q.com).
