February 2012 Old Soldier's Match

Good Evening High Power Shooters,

Sunday brought good partly sunny weather for the February Old Soldier’s Match with a good turnout of 10 shooters. Tony Minerd and Gary Baldwin gave everyone a good scare when they both shows up with M1A rifles – but that was just for show-and-tell. Never the less, Tony and Gary still took 1st and 2nd place. We had a group of real good shooters, with the top 7 places scoring over 275 out of 300.

After being snowed out last month, this was the first match where we awarded medals for placing. The top 5 places received our new medals. Also, this is the first match to start earning points for the annual Distinguished Rifleman award. We will award points for shooters placing in the Old Soldier’s, CMP, and M1 Garand matches. We also add a point for each Stage win in each match. At the end of the year, each shooter compiling 20 points or more will receive a CCR&P Distinguished Rifleman award, and the top overall shooter will receive a trophy. Pass the word to your friends.

As you can see below, Tony cleaned up today, winning both stages and the match, earning a total of 7 points. Way to go Tony!

Ken Horton won the Bragging Rights for taking 1st place in the Carbine match shooting an SKS. Today’s carbine match course of fire was:

· 10 rounds Timed Fire prone at 100 yards in 2 minutes

· 10 rounds Rapid Fire prone at 100 yards in 30 seconds

· 10 rounds Rapid Fire sitting at 50 yards in 30 seconds

· 10 rounds Timed Fire offhand standing at 50 yards in 2 minutes
